It is frustrating – Erik ten Hag not happy with the indecisiveness of Manchester United hierarchy

Erik ten Hag continues to cut a frustrating figure in the background due to the indecisiveness of INEOS regarding his immediate future.

According to The Sun, Erik ten Hag has expressed his frustration in the background owing to INEOS’ indecisiveness about his immediate future. The Manchester United boss remains unsure about his role beyond this season as the new hierarchy continues to plan new things but has not cleared the Dutchman’s future.

Erik ten Hag frustrated with INEOS

Manchester United’s loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge was their 12th of the season, which has equalled a record for most defeats in a Premier League campaign. Fans are convinced the Red Devils under Erik ten Hag will surpass that, as many were confident that would happen on Sunday, although they mustered a draw against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

It’s been such a season where fans have yet to come to expect consistency from their side, and the manager has to take the blame for it. Giving the Dutchman some benefit of the doubt, Manchester United have been hampered by significant injuries, especially to their defenders, which has not allowed Ten Hag to consistently pick the right players and help them build relationships on the pitch.

Now, with INEOS’ entry into the club midway through the season, there have been significant doubts thrown Ten Hag’s way as his future remains in doubt. In the months since Sir Jim Ratcliffe came in to take over football operations, many media outlets have been convinced that Manchester United could sack Ten Hag.

Whether he has a future at the club remains the source of Ten Hag’s frustrations, as he wants clear answers about his immediate future. The Dutchman recently urged club chiefs to abandon plans to disrupt his squad and project building plans, which did sound like a plea to save himself from the sack. In any case, Ten Hag will have offers to coach elsewhere, with former club Ajax ready to re-sign him next summer.

INEOS making plenty of background changes

INEOS’s plans are taking shape in the background, as many vital executives are expected to arrive in the summer. Newcastle director Dan Ashworth looks likely to be the first through the door. At the same time, Southampton’s key man Jason Wilcox also seems destined to take up an essential role under the new football operators at Old Trafford.

They might make more additions as well as decide the future of some existing personnel, including Ten Hag, and the managerial situation. As the report states, Ten Hag would like absolute clarity as he wishes to plan for next season and continue his build-up at Old Trafford.

Manchester United starlet Kobbie Mainoo has apologised for his celebration after scoring a screamer against Liverpool.

The 18-year-old sensation sent Old Trafford into raptures when he gave the Red Devils a 2-1 lead over their rivals before the game eventually finished 2-2. Mainoo received the ball from team-mate Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the 67th minute before opening his body up and curling the ball into the top right hand corner from just inside the box.

His sublime finish came despite a difficult start for United, having been dominated by Liverpool and headed into half-time 1-0 down. But Erik ten Hag’s side came out of the tunnel with a point to prove as Bruno Fernandes sparked the comeback, before Mainoo brought Old Trafford to its feet with his first goal at the ground.

Such was the beauty of Mainoo’s strike that the recent England international began celebrating before it even went in. And he apologised for not containing his excitement in his post-match interview, having gone on to salute the Old Trafford faithful and blown kisses.

Mainoo apologetically said via the Mirror: “Yeah, it felt good so I got ahead of myself. Sorry.”

He added: “Unbelievable feeling, first professional goal at Old Trafford and to do it in this fixture is also amazing. At the end of the day, we don’t walk away with the three points so I can’t be too happy.”

Mohamed Salah’s late penalty snatched a draw for Liverpool, leaving United to rue their own missed opportunities. It was Wan-Bissaka’s foul on Harvey Elliott in the box that gave Salah the chance to level the score late on.

Mainoo was dissatisfied with the end result despite stealing a point off title-hopefuls Liverpool, pointing out that small errors are costing the side. United dropped points from a winning position for the third game in a row.

He said: “Disappointed [with only a point], to be honest, because I feel like in the second half we performed really well. We picked it up and the lads worked really, really hard. It was minor mistakes that in the end were major. Need ironing out and we can win the game.”
