Gary Neville has admitted he has real fears for Manchester United defender Jonny Evans ahead of Saturday’s game against Burnley.

United wanted to face Burnley at Turf Moor but had real problems in defense.

Raphael Varane has only just returned and was not ready to start, while Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez were ruled out.

Luke Shaw served as a makeshift center back at times last season, but he too is on the treatment table.

This meant that someone had to step in as an associate for Victor Lindelof – and that position went to Jonny Evans. Jonny Evans is putting in a good performance for Manchester United

Evans was a surprise signing for United in August when the experienced centre-back returned to Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag had brought Evans into the mix during the build-up and provided the team with an experienced head.

United ultimately decided to sign Evans following his release from Leicester City following their relegation to the Championship.

Evans played for United for the first time since 2015 and certainly contributed to the 1-0 win over Burnley.

Gary Neville shares honest verdict on Jonny Evans

Defensively, Evans was also a force in helping United maintain a clean sheet.

Pundit and former United star Gary Neville has now spoken about Evans on the Gary Neville Podcast.

Neville praised Evans, calling him a “truly first-class” defender who has contributed so much at the highest level.

However, Neville admitted his fears for Evans and believed the game against Burnley could end his career.

The Sky Sports pundit felt Burnley’s attacking players could cause Evans major problems, but he was happy with the way he secured United’s victory. Neville realized he didn’t really need to share his fears for Evans, but that’s how he really felt, having been in a similar situation himself.

“I will speak about it openly; When I saw Jonny Evans in the team… Jonny Evans has been a fantastic defender for Manchester United and also for Leicester City since, and Manchester City wanted Jonny Evans three or four years ago, and Pep Guardiola is not kidding not. He’s a very high level central defender, Jonny Evans, a good player, good with the ball, and I said to myself “Oh, Jonny” and I was with him because at the end of my career in Manchester United, I played a few matches. where I played people were walking past me and I was isolated and I thought it could be Jonny’s end game if the Burnley forwards attacked him and he was exposed. “

“I was absolutely delighted with how the match went for him. I thought he had scored the goal and then he set up the lovely little diagonal pass to Bruno Fernandes for a brilliant finish. I was happy for Jonny Evans because before the match I was scared about how it was going to go and people wouldn’t have known and I wouldn’t have had to say that, but it’s exactly what I felt,” he added.
