Roy Keane completely disagrees with what Ian Wright has said about Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United

Roy Keane and Ian Wright had an interesting debate on Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes.

The Portugal international was the star of the show last night as he helped the Red Devils come from behind to beat Sheffield United.

Fernandes’ numbers show he has had a good season, but the 29-year-old’s behaviour on the pitch, especially when things are not going well, really frustrates those watching him.

Keane was one of Manchester United‘s greatest captains, and he expects high standards from whoever wears the armband for the Red Devils today.

He has now had his say on what he thinks of Fernandes at Manchester United.

Roy Keane disagrees after what Ian Wright said about Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United signed Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 for an initial fee of £47 million (BBC).

The midfielder became an instant hit at Old Trafford, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists in just 22 appearances in his first six months at the club.

Even in what has mostly been an underwhelming campaign this season, Fernandes’ numbers look really good and his brace against Sheffield United last night took his tally up to 15 goals and 11 assists this term.

That is a really impressive return for a midfielder, and Ian Wright appears to be a big fan of the Portugal international, despite some of his antics on the pitch.

The Arsenal legend went as far as calling him a ‘winner’.

He said on the latest episode of Stick to Football: “I think Bruno is a winner. Whatever we say. He has his fault where you see him doing that [histrionics].”

Roy Keane completely disagreed with that assessment. He said: “He’s won nothing in his career! He’s 29 and has won nothing.”

Wright replied: “But in respects of wanting to be a winner his standards are high and let’s face it, take Bruno out of Man United right now, if he’s not doing what he’s doing Man United are nowhere near where they are.

“He’s frustrated. He probably sees it in training every day, people not up to the standard of what he’s looking for and it spills over on a Saturday because he brings it, whatever we say about his histrionics and how he is acting, he brings it.

“If Man United are going to be saved in a game it’s probably going to be him. He has every right to be upset with them because they should be doing better.”

Keane then said: “Yeah, but the really good leaders, if he wants to be one, yes, he’s a good player – I think he’s a brilliant player, no doubt about that. But, does he help people out? Does he make the other players around him better?

“The answer is 100% no.”

Bruno Fernandes’ stats vs Sheffield United will blow you away

Bruno Fernandes produced one of his best performances against Sheffield United last night.

The Portugal international, apart from scoring twice and picking up an assist, had 110 touches of the ball and completed 66 of his 76 attempted passes, maintaining a healthy 87 per cent passing accuracy.

Fernandes also registered nine key passes yesterday, which is a stunning return. He created two big chances too and SofaScore gave him a perfect 10/10 rating for his display.

People can say what they want about Fernandes’ behaviour and leadership, but without him, Manchester United would probably be somewhere near Chelsea in the table.

Fernandes deserves more praise and some of the criticism he receives is unfair.
