BATON ROUGE, LA – Overcome with emotion, LSU Tigers women’s basketball standout Aneesah Morrow broke down in tears Monday night after being honored with the prestigious Pericous Maxwell Award for Excellence.

The award, presented annually to the nation’s top women’s college basketball player, recognized Morrow’s extraordinary impact on LSU’s remarkable championship season.

Surrounded by teammates, coaches, and family at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, Morrow accepted the award with a heartfelt speech that reflected both her gratitude and her relentless drive.

“This means everything to me,” Morrow said through tears. “I’ve worked so hard, and to be recognized like this—it’s a blessing. I couldn’t have done it without my team, my coaches, and the LSU fans who believed in me.”

Morrow, a junior forward who transferred to LSU prior to the 2024–25 season, quickly became the centerpiece of the Tigers’ dominant campaign. Averaging 21.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 2.4 steals per game, she led LSU to a 34–2 record and a national title. Her presence on both ends of the court was unmatched, and her leadership proved instrumental during tight postseason contests.

Head coach Kim Mulkey praised Morrow’s work ethic and impact. “Aneesah is the heart of this team. Her dedication, toughness, and passion set the tone for everyone,” Mulkey said. “This award is a testament to her commitment and excellence.”

The Pericous Maxwell Award, named after the trailblazing former coach and advocate for women’s sports, has become one of college basketball’s highest honors. Morrow joins a prestigious group of past winners who have gone on to successful WNBA careers.

As chants of “M-V-P” echoed through the arena, Morrow embraced her teammates, soaking in the moment—one that will be etched in LSU history
