Breaking: Dawn Staley  plans to build a new “Gamecock Women’s Basketball Center.” Coach Staley, who has been at the helm of the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team since 2008, has led the program to significant success, including three NCAA national championships in 2017, 2022, and 2024.

In recognition of the team’s achievements, several initiatives have been undertaken to honor Coach Staley and the program:

Highway Signs: In August 2024, 15 highway signs were installed across South Carolina to commemorate the Gamecocks’ national championships in 2017, 2022, and 2024.

Statue: Plans were announced for a statue of Coach Staley in downtown Columbia, celebrating her contributions to women’s basketball and her role in promoting gender equality in sports.

WNBA Exhibition: In May 2024, Colonial Life Arena hosted a WNBA preseason game between the Las Vegas Aces and another team, marking the first time such a game was held on a college campus. Coach Staley highlighted the significance of this event for the growth of women’s basketball.

While these developments underscore the growing prominence of women’s basketball at South Carolina, there is currently no information available about the construction of a dedicated “Gamecock Women’s Basketball Center.”
