BREAKING: Georgia Southern Transfer Troy Pikes Commits to South Carolina.

South Carolina has landed a major addition to its defensive line as Georgia Southern transfer Troy Pikes announced his commitment to the Gamecocks. The 6-foot-4, 295-pound defensive lineman brings size, power, and experience to a unit that has been a focus for improvement heading into the 2025 season.

Pikes, who emerged as one of the top performers on Georgia Southern’s defense last season, finished the year with 43 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks. His ability to plug gaps and disrupt opposing backfields quickly caught the attention of Power Five programs once he entered the transfer portal. South Carolina, in need of depth and playmaking on the defensive front, moved swiftly to secure his commitment.

For the Gamecocks, adding Pikes is a significant win, especially given the SEC’s reputation for physicality in the trenches. His blend of quickness off the snap and strength at the point of attack makes him a valuable asset in both 3- and 4-man fronts. With veterans graduating and younger talent still developing, Pikes is expected to compete for a starting role immediately.

Head coach Shane Beamer and defensive coordinator Clayton White have emphasized the importance of building a dominant front seven, and Pikes fits that vision perfectly. His leadership and experience will also be key in helping younger linemen adjust to the speed and complexity of SEC football.

Pikes becomes the latest addition in what is shaping up to be a strong transfer class for South Carolina, one that addresses immediate needs while maintaining long-term upside. With spring ball wrapped up and summer workouts approaching, his arrival couldn’t be better timed.

The Gamecocks’ defensive line just got deeper, tougher, and more

dangerous.
