Breaking: In the lead-up to Tennessee’s NCAA Tournament matchup against UCLA, head coach Rick Barnes addressed his past connection to the Bruins and shared thoughts that may shed light on his stance regarding retirement.

In 2019, Barnes was a top candidate for the UCLA coaching position but ultimately remained with the Volunteers due to unresolved buyout negotiations.

Reflecting on that period, Barnes expressed gratitude for his tenure at Tennessee, stating, “I’m just thankful and blessed that I’ve got the opportunity that I have at Tennessee.” He also acknowledged UCLA’s successful hiring of Mick Cronin, noting, “I don’t think there is any question they made the right hire.”

Looking ahead, Barnes expressed interest in arranging future games between Tennessee and UCLA, saying, “I’d like to do a home and home with UCLA because of the respect that I have for that program and Mick.”

These remarks suggest that Barnes remains focused on his coaching career and future team endeavors, indicating that retirement is not currently on his agenda.
