Breaking news: five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry has committed to the Texas Longhorns, choosing them over powerhouse programs such as Georgia, Alabama, and Auburn.

Standing at 6’5″ and weighing 275 pounds, Terry hails from Manchester, Georgia, and is ranked as the No. 10 overall recruit and No. 2 defensive lineman in the 2025 class. His commitment is a monumental win for Texas, as they continue to bolster their roster in preparation for competition in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

Terry’s recruitment journey has been eventful. He initially committed to Georgia in January 2023 before de-committing and pledging to USC in March 2024. However, his commitment to USC was short-lived, as he de-committed in June 2024 and subsequently visited Texas, Alabama, and Auburn. Ultimately, the Longhorns secured his commitment, a move characterized by On3.com’s Keegan Pope as “a bit of a recruiting shocker.”

The addition of Terry significantly enhances Texas’ defensive line, providing them with a versatile and impactful player capable of disrupting opposing offenses. His explosive first step, stoutness against the run, high motor, and excellent closing speed make him a formidable force on the field.

This commitment also underscores the effectiveness of head coach Steve Sarkisian’s recruiting strategy and the program’s growing influence in attracting top-tier talent. With Terry on board, Texas’ 2025 recruiting class is now ranked as the best in the nation by 247Sports, positioning the Longhorns as formidable contenders in the SEC and on the national stage.

Terry’s decision to join Texas over traditional SEC powerhouses like Alabama and Georgia marks a pivotal shift in the recruiting landscape, signaling that the Longhorns are not only competing with but also outpacing established programs in securing elite talent. This move is poised to have a lasting impact on the balance of power within college football, as Texas continues to build a roster capable of competing for national championships.
