In a powerful move to give back to the community, Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has announced a $3.6 million personal investment to transform a large, privately-owned property into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth in Tennessee. The initiative, called “Morant House of Hope,” is set to open in late 2025 and aims to provide housing, education, mental health support, and job training for vulnerable youth aged 13–21.
Morant, known for his explosive talent on the court, is now making headlines for his impact off the hardwood. “This city and this state have shown me nothing but love,” Morant said in a statement Tuesday morning. “Now it’s time I do something meaningful for those who need it most—our kids who are facing the toughest situations imaginable.”
The facility will include 20 private rooms, a full-time counseling staff, a recreational center, and partnerships with local schools and businesses to help teens complete their education and gain employment skills. The house will also offer art, music, and sports programs to foster personal growth.
Community leaders and nonprofit organizations have praised the move. “Ja is setting a new standard for athlete philanthropy,” said DeShawn Willis, director of Tennessee Youth Outreach. “This shelter is not just a building—it’s a lifeline.”
The House of Hope project is already in development, with renovations on the 10,000-square-foot property underway. Morant will also launch a foundation to help expand the initiative to other cities if successful.
While his future on the court remains bright, it’s clear Ja Morant is already leaving a legacy that transcends basketball—one that could change lives for generations to come.
