Breaking news: (LSU) regarding a $987.2 million project to build a new stadium in honor of women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey. However, Coach Mulkey has previously advocated for significant upgrades to LSU’s basketball facilities.

Following the team’s first national championship in 2023, she publicly expressed the need for either a comprehensive renovation of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center (PMAC) or the construction of a new stadium. She emphasized that it was time to address the facility’s condition, stating, “We don’t need to put a coat of paint on it. It’s time to either completely renovate it or build a new one next to it and tear that one down.”

Coach Mulkey’s tenure at LSU has been marked by remarkable success. Since her arrival in 2021, she has revitalized the women’s basketball program, leading the Tigers to their first national championship in her second season. Under her guidance, the team has consistently achieved 20-win seasons, and she reached her 100th win at LSU on December 1, 2024, becoming the fastest coach in university history to reach this milestone. Her achievements have not gone unnoticed; in February 2025, she was named the Naismith Coach of the Year, reflecting her exceptional leadership and the program’s success under her direction.

While there is no confirmation of a new stadium project at this time, Coach Mulkey’s advocacy for improved facilities highlights her commitment to advancing LSU’s basketball program. Her leadership continues to elevate the team’s performance and reputation on the national stage.
