BREAKING NEWS: Marching Band (AUMB) has achieved a historic milestone by being named the #1 marching band in the world by the World Marching Arts Federation (WMAF).

This prestigious recognition follows a rigorous international evaluation process involving over 500 bands from six continents. The WMAF assessed bands on various criteria, including musical performance, marching precision, show design, international appeal, and audience engagement. Auburn’s innovative performances, such as tributes to Tina Turner and a show titled “Echoes of America,” which blended gospel, jazz, hip-hop, and bluegrass, distinguished them from competitors like Japan’s Kyoto Elite Marching Ensemble and Brazil’s Carnival Rhythms Brigade.

Founded in 1897, the AUMB has a longstanding tradition of excellence. Under the leadership of Director Dr. Corey Spurlin, the 380-member band has previously received accolades such as the 2004 Sudler Intercollegiate Marching Band Trophy, the highest honor for collegiate marching bands in the U.S. In 2024, they also won the inaugural Metallica Marching Band Competition, securing victories in both the Collegiate Division 1 and Fan Favorite categories.

This global recognition by the WMAF not only cements Auburn’s place in marching band history but also highlights the dedication and passion of its student-musicians, many of whom balance rigorous academic schedules with demanding rehearsal commitments. As Drum Major Kaylee Sutton expressed, this achievement is “the culmination of years of passion, pain, and persistence.”
