Breaking news: Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has confirmed that freshman defensive lineman Eddrick Houston, a former five-star recruit from Buford, Georgia, has transitioned from defensive end to defensive tackle.

This strategic move aims to capitalize on Houston’s physical attributes—standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 270 pounds—to bolster the Buckeyes’ interior defensive line.

Since making the switch, Houston has appeared in six games, recording one tackle and batting down two passes at the line of scrimmage. His increased involvement was evident during the game against Penn State, where he played six snaps—the fourth-highest for a defensive tackle in that matchup.

Day expressed optimism about Houston’s potential, stating, “I think he’s got a very bright future ahead of him. I think he’s a very good football player. He’s gotta keep learning. He has the size, the strength, (and) the toughness to play inside.”

Looking ahead, Houston is poised to compete for a starting role, especially with the anticipated departure of key defensive linemen to the NFL. His ability to pressure quarterbacks from the interior could become a significant asset for Ohio State’s defense in the upcoming seasons.

This position change underscores the coaching staff’s commitment to optimizing player strengths and maintaining a dynamic defensive front. As Houston continues to adapt and develop in his new role, his contributions are expected to enhance the Buckeyes’ defensive capabilities.
