BREAKING NEWS: Ohio State is set to have one of the most experienced offensive line coaching staffs in college football for the 2025 season, boasting more than 40 years of combined FBS coaching experience.
This level of expertise should be a major advantage for the Buckeyes as they continue to compete for Big Ten and national championships.
Leading the unit will be offensive line coach Justin Frye, who has been with Ohio State since 2022. Frye has extensive experience, having previously served as UCLA’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, as well as holding positions at Boston College, Temple, and Indiana. His ability to develop linemen and recruit top talent has made him a key figure in the Buckeyes’ success.
Joining him on staff is Bill O’Brien, who was hired as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator in 2024. O’Brien brings a wealth of experience, having coached at Penn State and Alabama, as well as serving as the head coach of the Houston Texans. While not strictly an offensive line coach, his deep knowledge of offensive schemes will play a role in developing the Buckeyes’ front five.
Additionally, Ohio State has bolstered its staff with Joe Philbin, a veteran coach with decades of experience at both the collegiate and NFL levels. Philbin, a former Green Bay Packers head coach and longtime offensive line coach, adds another layer of wisdom to the Buckeyes’ offensive approach.
With this trio and potential additional staffers, Ohio State’s offensive line development will be in expert hands. Their combined experience ensures that the Buckeyes will have the coaching necessary to maintain an elite offensive front, which is crucial in both the Big Ten and College Football Playoff race.
