BREAKING NEWS: Ohio State University has secured a significant commitment from four-star wide receiver Phillip Bell, a standout from Mission Viejo High School in California.

Bell, who ranks as the No. 179 overall prospect and the No. 20 wide receiver in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Rankings, chose the Buckeyes over other prestigious programs, including Alabama, Michigan, Georgia, USC, and Washington.

Bell’s relationship with Ohio State began during his first visit to Columbus in the spring of 2023, where he received an offer that immediately elevated the Buckeyes on his list of potential schools. Over the past 18 months, Bell made multiple visits to the campus, each reinforcing his interest in the program. He cited the development of wide receivers under Ohio State’s wide receivers coach, Brian Hartline, as a pivotal factor in his decision. Bell expressed that playing for Hartline was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up, given Hartline’s track record of producing first-round NFL talent.

During his junior year at Mission Viejo, Bell recorded 56 receptions for 644 yards and seven touchdowns, showcasing his ability to perform against top-tier competition. Standing at 6 feet and weighing 200 pounds, Bell is known for his precise route-running and reliable hands, traits that align well with Ohio State’s offensive strategies.

Bell’s commitment bolsters an already impressive 2025 recruiting class for Ohio State, which includes other top wide receiver talents such as Quincy Porter, De’zie Jones, and Bodpegn Miller. The class is further strengthened by the inclusion of five-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair, with whom Bell has developed a strong rapport. Bell expressed enthusiasm about working with St. Clair, noting that their connection was among the factors that made Ohio State the right choice for him.

Bell plans to graduate from Mission Viejo High School in December and enroll at Ohio State in January, allowing him to participate in spring practices and acclimate to the Buckeyes’ system ahead of the 2025 season.

This commitment not only enhances Ohio State’s offensive arsenal but also underscores the program’s national reach in recruiting elite talent from across the

country.
