BREAKING NEWS: Reese Atwood has etched her name into Texas softball history with a season that redefines excellence.

The junior catcher shattered the Longhorns’ single-season home run record, launching her 19th homer—a three-run blast to centerfield—during a dominant 23-0 victory over Texas Tech on May 4, 2024. This feat surpassed the previous mark set by Taylor Hoagland in 2012 .

 

Atwood’s offensive prowess didn’t stop there. She amassed a staggering 13 RBIs over the weekend series, including a career-high nine in a single game, propelling Texas to its first regular-season conference championship since 2010 . Her performance earned her multiple Player of the Week honors from the Big 12 Conference, D1Softball, and the NFCA .

 

Earlier in the season, Atwood broke the program’s career RBI record, surpassing Taylor Thom’s 178 RBIs with a two-run homer against Auburn on March 21, 2025 . She also set the single-season RBI record, reaching 70 RBIs during a doubleheader sweep of Iowa State on April 28, 2024 .

 

Recognized nationally, Atwood was named a unanimous First Team All-American by the NFCA, becoming only the sixth player in Texas history to earn this distinction . Her remarkable season has solidified her status as one of the most formidable forces in collegiate softball.
