Breaking news: Retired NFL wide receiver Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson has cautioned San Francisco 49ers’ star Deebo Samuel following Samuel’s recent trade request.

Johnson emphasized that leaving the 49ers might not yield the desired outcome for Samuel, stating, “The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.” He expressed concerns that if Samuel moves to a team that doesn’t utilize his unique skill set effectively, it could be detrimental to his career.

Samuel, known for his versatility as a “Swiss Army Knife” in the 49ers’ offense, has been a pivotal player under head coach Kyle Shanahan. Johnson questioned whether other teams would maximize Samuel’s talents as effectively as San Francisco has, noting that not every team has a coach like Shanahan who can fully harness such a multifaceted player.

This isn’t the first time Samuel has sought a trade. In 2022, during a contract dispute, he requested a move but ultimately signed a three-year, $71.5 million extension to remain with the 49ers. His recent trade request adds complexity to the 49ers’ offseason, as the team aims to maintain a competitive roster after a disappointing 6-11 season.

Johnson’s advice underscores the potential risks associated with leaving a system that has effectively utilized Samuel’s diverse abilities. As the situation develops, Samuel will need to carefully consider whether a trade would truly benefit his career or if staying with the 49ers offers the best opportunity to maximize his unique skill

set.
