Breaking news: Texas Longhorns community, legendary coach Mack Brown has officially returned to the program, taking on a role as a senior advisor to the team.

This announcement comes as the Longhorns prepare for their transition into the Southeastern Conference (SEC), marking a new chapter in the storied history of Texas football.

Brown, who led the Longhorns from 1998 to 2013, is best remembered for guiding the team to a national championship in 2005 and achieving nine consecutive 10-win seasons. His return is not as head coach—Steve Sarkisian continues in that role—but as a mentor and strategist, focusing on player development, program culture, and recruiting. Brown expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Texas has always been home for me and my family. The opportunity to return and contribute to this program’s next chapter is something I couldn’t pass up.”

Athletic Director Chris Del Conte highlighted the significance of Brown’s return, emphasizing the value of his experience and leadership during this pivotal time. Brown’s presence is expected to bolster the team’s morale and provide invaluable insights as they navigate the challenges of the SEC.

This development follows Brown’s recent departure from the University of North Carolina, where he served as head coach until the end of the 2024 season. Despite expressing a desire to continue, the university decided to make a change, concluding Brown’s second tenure with the Tar Heels.

As the Longhorns embark on this new era, Brown’s return symbolizes a bridge between the program’s illustrious past and its ambitious future. Fans and players alike are eager to see the impact of his guidance as Texas aims to reestablish itself as a powerhouse in college football.
