Texas Longhorns defensive end Colton Vasek is scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder, as reported by 247Sportsβ Chip Brown.
Vasek, a rising sophomore, made his debut in the 2024 season opener against Colorado State after redshirting his freshman year. He showcased his potential early in the season, recording sacks against UTSA and Mississippi State. However, shoulder and hip injuries limited his effectiveness later in the season, preventing him from adding to those numbers.
With senior edge rusher Barryn Sorrell declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, the Longhorns will look to Vasek for consistent contributions in the upcoming season. He is expected to play alongside fellow Westlake High School alumnus Ethan Burke, who recorded two sacks as a junior in 2024.
Vasek was a four-star recruit out of Austin Westlake High School, where he recorded 71 tackles and 14 sacks in his senior season. He was a significant contributor to Westlakeβs remarkable run of 54 straight wins and three consecutive state titles, which ended in 2023.
The recovery timeline for labrum surgery can vary, but with proper rehabilitation, Vasek is expected to be ready for the start of the 2025 season. His return will be crucial for the Longhorns as they aim to maintain a strong defensive front in the upcoming season.
