This announcement marks a homecoming for Williams, who set numerous records during his collegiate career at the University of Texas.

Williams’s tenure with the Longhorns was nothing short of extraordinary. He amassed 6,279 rushing yards, setting an NCAA record at the time, and secured 72 rushing touchdowns. His remarkable performance earned him the Heisman Trophy in 1998, solidifying his legacy in college football. His contributions were further honored when Texas retired his No. 34 jersey in 2000.

Following his collegiate success, Williams embarked on an 11-season NFL career, playing for teams such as the New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins, and Baltimore Ravens. He surpassed the 10,000-yard rushing mark, joining an elite group of NFL running backs. Notably, he led the league in rushing in 2002 with 1,853 yards while with the Dolphins.

Transitioning into coaching, Williams served as the running backs coach at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio in 2013. His role there allowed him to mentor young athletes and share his extensive knowledge of the game.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian expressed enthusiasm about Williams’s return to Texas, stating, “Ricky is a Longhorn through and through. His knowledge of the game, combined with his experience as a player, makes him the perfect fit for our coaching staff.”
