BREAKING NEWS:In a surprising turn of events, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has announced his resignation, effective immediately.

This decision comes just weeks after leading the Buckeyes to a national championship victory over Notre Dame, securing the program’s ninth title. The announcement has sent shockwaves through the Ohio State football community, as Day had recently agreed to a contract extension through the 2031 season.

In his statement, Day cited a desire to prioritize his family’s well-being and his ongoing commitment to mental health advocacy as primary reasons for his departure. Having experienced personal tragedy with the loss of his father to suicide at a young age, Day has been a vocal proponent for mental health awareness. Together with his wife, Nina, he established The Nina and Ryan Day Resilience Fund to support mental health research and services at The Ohio State University.

Day’s tenure at Ohio State has been marked by remarkable success, amassing a 70-10 record and maintaining the highest active victory percentage in college football at 87.5%. His leadership not only brought championships but also fostered a culture of resilience and openness regarding mental health within the team.

The university has expressed its gratitude for Day’s contributions and is expected to commence a national search for his successor immediately. As the Buckeyes prepare for the upcoming season, the impact of Day’s departure will undoubtedly be a focal point for both the team and its supporters.
