Breaking: NFL Films senior producer Greg Cosell expressed significant concerns about Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers’ potential as an NFL starter, particularly criticizing his mechanics.

Cosell stated, “His mechanics are so poor,” highlighting issues that could hinder Ewers’ transition to the professional level.

Ewers, standing at 6’2″ and weighing 210 pounds, has been a prominent figure in college football since his top recruit status in 2021. Over his tenure at Texas, he has completed 64.3% of his passes, amassing 5,656 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Despite these numbers, evaluations of his mechanics have been mixed.

Some scouts commend Ewers for his quick release and accuracy, particularly in short to intermediate throws. However, concerns about his footwork and lower-body mechanics persist. Reports indicate that his inconsistent footwork leads to passes losing velocity, especially on deeper throws. Additionally, Ewers has been noted to struggle under defensive pressure, often bailing from clean pockets and displaying a lack of patience, which could be detrimental at the NFL level.

These mechanical flaws raise questions about Ewers’ readiness for the NFL. While his arm talent and ability to operate within a structured offense are evident, the transition to a professional setting demands refined mechanics and consistent pocket presence. Addressing these issues will be crucial for Ewers to fulfill his potential as a starting quarterback in the

NFL.
