The initiative, named “The Uplift House”, will provide housing, education support, mental health services, mentorship, and job training for underserved Black youth facing homelessness. Smith, who’s quickly becoming a star on the gridiron, says his inspiration stems from seeing peers struggle with housing insecurity while growing up in South Florida. “I’ve been blessed through football,” he stated. “Now it’s time to use that blessing to uplift others who look like me.”
Set to open in early 2026, the shelter will house up to 40 teens and young adults at a time. The project is being developed in partnership with local nonprofits and Black-led organizations to ensure culturally responsive care. Smith is also launching a scholarship fund tied to the program, giving residents opportunities to pursue college or trade education.
