BREAKING: Syracuse DL Transfer Maraad Watson Commits to Texas.

The Texas Longhorns have added a major piece to their defensive line. Former Syracuse standout Maraad Watson has officially committed to Texas, as first reported by On3 Sports.

Watson, who entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason, was widely considered one of the top defensive linemen available. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound force brings a combination of size, experience, and athleticism to the Longhorns’ front seven. He totaled 31 tackles and 1 sack last season for the Orange, making his presence felt in both run defense and interior pressure.

Known for his high motor and physical style of play, Watson fits the mold of what Texas is looking for as it reloads on defense heading into its first season in the SEC. With the departure of key contributors along the defensive front, Watson provides both depth and starting-caliber talent that could immediately impact the rotation.

Texas beat out several top programs for Watson’s services, including SEC rivals who were pushing hard for the veteran lineman. His commitment signals another win for the Longhorns in the portal and adds to what has already been a strong offseason of roster additions.

Watson’s experience at the Power Five level will be valuable as Texas gears up for a tougher conference slate. His ability to clog running lanes, absorb double teams, and disrupt in the backfield should make him a valuable asset for defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski’s scheme.

With spring ball wrapped and summer workouts on the horizon, Texas fans can expect to see Watson making an early impression once he arrives in Austin. This is a big get for the Longhorns — and one that could pay off in a big way

this fall.
