Dawn Staley has addressed MiLaysia Fulwiley’s surprising transfer to LSU, a move that has stirred the college basketball community.

Fulwiley, a standout guard and former SEC Sixth Player of the Year, announced her decision to join LSU via Instagram, stating, “Geaux Tigers 💜💛” .

While Staley has not issued a formal statement specifically about Fulwiley’s transfer, she has previously spoken about their relationship and Fulwiley’s development. It is our process that we are going to continue to trust” .

Fulwiley’s transfer comes after South Carolina’s loss to UConn in the national championship on April 6. Despite being a key contributor to South Carolina’s undefeated season and national championship win in 2023-2024, Fulwiley often came off the bench behind veteran guards. The arrival of high-scoring transfer Ta’Niya Latson likely further limited her future role, prompting her move .

At LSU, Fulwiley joins a talented backcourt alongside Flau’jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams, aiming to bolster the Tigers’ roster and challenge South Carolina’s dominance in the SEC .

While Staley has not publicly commented on the specifics of Fulwiley’s transfer, her past remarks highlight a foundation of mutual respect and trust between coach and player. As the dynamics of SEC women’s basketball continue to evolve, Fulwiley’s move to LSU adds a compelling chapter to the storied rivalry between the two programs.
