ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. believes Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka has a strong chance of being selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft—if he posts an impressive 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine.

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. believes Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka has a strong chance of being selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft—if he posts an impressive 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine.

Kiper specifically noted that if Egbuka runs in the 4.4-second range, it could solidify his status as a first-round pick.

One potential landing spot Kiper mentioned is the Pittsburgh Steelers, a team that could use reinforcements in their wide receiver corps. With Diontae Johnson and George Pickens as their top two receivers, the Steelers could benefit from adding a reliable slot option like Egbuka, who brings strong route-running, dependable hands, and the ability to make plays after the catch.

Beyond his on-field skills, Kiper emphasized that Egbuka would bring maturity and leadership to the Steelers’ wide receiver room. Pittsburgh has had some challenges with consistency and discipline at the position, and adding a high-character player like Egbuka could help stabilize the group.

Egbuka was highly productive at Ohio State, especially during his sophomore season in 2022 when he recorded 74 catches for 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns. Although his numbers dipped in 2023 due to injuries and a slightly reduced role, his talent and versatility remain unquestioned.

If Egbuka can prove his speed and athleticism at the combine, he could cement himself as a late first-round pick, with Pittsburgh among the teams that might take a serious look at him. With his polished skill set and strong football IQ, he has the potential to make an immediate impact at the next level.
