GOOD NEWS: Tennessee Basketball Earns No. 2 Seed for Third Time Under Rick Barnes, Set to Face Wofford in NCAA Tournament.

The Tennessee Volunteers have secured a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the third time under head coach Rick Barnes, solidifying their status as one of the top teams in college basketball this season. The Vols will begin their March Madness run against No. 15 seed Wofford in the first round.

Tennessee’s impressive regular season and strong SEC performances earned them a high seed, a testament to Barnes’ leadership and the team’s consistency. Led by All-American guard Dalton Knecht, the Volunteers boast one of the nation’s most balanced rosters, combining elite defense with efficient scoring. Knecht, the SEC Player of the Year, has been a key factor in Tennessee’s success, providing both offensive firepower and veteran leadership.

This marks the third time under Barnes that Tennessee has received a No. 2 seed, with previous occurrences in 2019 and 2023. In 2019, the Vols advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling to Purdue in an overtime thriller. Last year, they reached the Sweet 16 again, knocking off Duke before bowing out to Florida Atlantic. This year, Tennessee hopes to make a deeper run, with Final Four aspirations in sight.

Their first opponent, Wofford, enters the tournament as a dangerous underdog. Known for their three-point shooting and disciplined play, the Terriers have pulled off upsets in the past and won’t be an easy out. However, Tennessee’s size, depth, and defensive tenacity give them a strong edge in the matchup.

With a talented roster and tournament experience, the Vols have all the pieces to make a championship push. If they play to their potential, Tennessee could be poised for its best NCAA Tournament run yet under Barnes.
