IMPORTANT NEWS: The Ohio State Buckeyes women’s basketball team has secured a significant addition to their roster with the commitment of Daria “Dasha” Biriuk, a highly-touted 6-foot-1 guard from The Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee.

Originally hailing from Berdyansk, Ukraine, Biriuk’s journey to Ohio State underscores her resilience and dedication to the sport.

Ranked 74th nationally in the 2025 class by ESPN’s HoopGurlz rankings, Biriuk brings a wealth of international experience to the Buckeyes. During the 2022 Under-18 European Championships, she showcased her scoring prowess by averaging 11.7 points per game, coupled with impressive shooting splits of 45% from the field, 41% from beyond the arc, and 70% from the free-throw line. Additionally, her defensive acumen was evident, averaging three steals per game over seven contests.

Biriuk’s commitment is particularly noteworthy as she chose Ohio State over other prominent programs, including Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. Her decision reflects the growing appeal and competitiveness of Ohio State’s women’s basketball program under the leadership of Head Coach Kevin McGuff.

Coach McGuff expressed his enthusiasm about Biriuk’s addition, stating, “She’s a terrific player who will immediately impact our ability to score the ball from the perimeter.” Biriuk’s versatility as a guard, combined with her sharp shooting and defensive capabilities, is expected to enhance both the offensive and defensive dynamics of the team.

The Buckeyes’ roster is poised for a bright future, with Biriuk joining a talented group of young players. Current freshmen such as Jaloni Cambridge, ranked second nationally, and Ava Watson, ranked 52nd, have already made significant contributions. Alongside Finnish center Elsa Lemmilä, these players have bolstered Ohio State’s performance on both ends of the court.

As the Buckeyes prepare for the upcoming seasons, the integration of Biriuk’s skills and international experience is anticipated to further elevate the team’s competitiveness in the Big Ten Conference and on the national stage. Fans and analysts alike are eager to witness the impact of this strategic acquisition as Ohio State continues its pursuit of excellence in women’s basketball.
