‘It’s a Love-Hate Relationship’: Former Ohio State QB Joe Burrow Makes Admission on His Rooting Interest with the Buckeyes.
Joe Burrow may be forever linked to LSU after leading the Tigers to a national championship and winning the Heisman Trophy, but his ties to Ohio State still run deep. The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback recently opened up about his complicated feelings toward the Buckeyes, admitting it’s a “love-hate relationship.”
Burrow, who spent three seasons at Ohio State before transferring to LSU in 2018, acknowledged that he still has affection for his former program. “I’ll always have love for Ohio State,” Burrow said. “I wouldn’t be where I am without them.” However, he also admitted that his departure created mixed emotions. “I root for them, but sometimes it’s tough because of how things played out.”
At Ohio State, Burrow was stuck behind J.T. Barrett and later lost the starting job to Dwayne Haskins. With limited playing time and his NFL aspirations on the line, he made the difficult decision to transfer. The move turned out to be career-defining, as he flourished at LSU, throwing for over 5,600 yards and 60 touchdowns in his legendary 2019 season.
Despite leaving Columbus, Burrow has maintained friendships with former Buckeye teammates and coaches. He’s often seen supporting Ohio-based teams, especially since being drafted by the Bengals in 2020.
“I’ll always have respect for Ohio State, but LSU is my home now,” Burrow said. “That’s just how it worked out.”
His comments reflect the unique nature of modern college football, where transfers can completely reshape careers. While Buckeye fans may wonder what could have been, there’s no denying that Burrow’s path led him to superstardom. And whether he’s rooting for them or not, Ohio State remains a key part of his journey.
