JUST IN: Yankees blockbuster trade bring $154 million ‘standout’ superstar to The Bronx.

The New York Yankees allowed Gleyber Torres to join with the Detroit Tigers. Torres stated that he believed the Yankees had other priorities, and that he was not on that list, according to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch. Regardless matter how the Yankees felt about Torres, they suddenly have a vacancy at second base. One alternative is to transfer Jazz Chisholm Jr. or allow D.J. LeMahieu to take over. However, FanSided’s James Nolan suggested that the Yankees consider trading for San Diego Padres standout Luis Arraez. Arráez has three All-Star appearances, two Silver Slugger awards, and three hitting championships. He has won three consecutive batting titles for three separate teams.

Why not attempt for four titles across four teams? Spotrac predicts Arráez will sign a nine-year, $154 million contract when he hits free agency after the season. Arráez isn’t a top defender. He has made 307 starts at second base in his career and is minus-seven outs above average. However, Torres’ departure leaves the Yankees without a leadoff hitter. Not many leadoff hitters are as good as Arráez. “The 27-year-old has 409 games in the leadoff position. “He has a.323 batting average and a.364 on-base percentage when leading off,” Nolan wrote. “With runners in scoring position, Arraez holds a staggering .369 batting average.”
