LSU wasted no time making moves in the transfer portal, quickly addressing a major need: rim protection.

The Tigers secured a commitment from 6-foot-5 forward Emma Koval, ranked No. 5 in the 2024 portal class. Koval brings immediate value with her size, length, and shot-blocking instincts. At Notre Dame, she averaged 1.7 blocks per game despite playing just 18 minutes, showcasing her ability to change shots and anchor a defense.

This move signals LSU’s aggressive strategy to reload and compete for another national championship. With standout guard Flau’jae Johnson returning and taking on an even greater leadership role, shoring up the frontcourt becomes crucial. Johnson’s ability to score and defend at a high level makes her a cornerstone, but she’ll need help inside to navigate the gauntlet of SEC play and the NCAA Tournament.

Koval is just the start. LSU is expected to remain active in the portal, with a focus on forwards and centers who can rebound, defend the paint, and run the floor. Head coach Kim Mulkey has built a reputation for attracting top talent and getting them to buy into her physical, fast-paced style of play. Adding elite size around Johnson will not only ease her defensive burden but also open up the floor offensively, creating better spacing and transition opportunities.

LSU’s 2023 championship showed what’s possible when talent and chemistry align. With Koval now in the fold, the Tigers are reinforcing their foundation and sending a message to the rest of the country: they’re not going anywhere. Expect more additions soon as LSU continues to stockpile the depth and size needed to return to the Final Four and keep the program in the national spotlight.
