Madison Booker, the standout sophomore guard for the Texas Longhorns, has been named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Player of the Year, marking her second consecutive conference Player of the Year award.

Last season, while Texas competed in the Big 12, Booker shared the honor with Oklahoma’s Skylar Vann. This achievement places her alongside Annette Smith as the only Longhorns to earn back-to-back conference Player of the Year accolades.

Throughout the season, Booker led the Longhorns with an average of 16.0 points per game, shooting 46.4% from the field and 41.7% from three-point range. She also contributed 6.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Her performance was instrumental in Texas securing a share of the SEC regular-season championship in their inaugural year in the conference.

Booker’s impact extended beyond individual statistics. She delivered double-double performances against top-tier teams, including a 20-point, 11-rebound game against then-No. 2 South Carolina, and a 16-point, 10-rebound effort against then-No. 5 LSU. Her clutch play was evident with game-winning shots in the final moments against Tennessee and Ole Miss.

In the NCAA Tournament, Booker continued to shine, leading Texas to its first women’s Final Four appearance since 2003. She scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds in a 58-47 victory over TCU in the Elite Eight. Her performance earned her the title of Most Outstanding Player of the Birmingham 3 Regional.

Beyond her on-court achievements, Booker’s excellence has been recognized by Longhorns legend Kevin Durant, who believes she may surpass his own collegiate accomplishments. As Texas prepares for the Final Four matchup against defending champion South Carolina, Booker’s leadership and performance remain central to the Longhorns’ pursuit of a national

title.
