Mike Doss: A Buckeye Legend and Hall of Famer.

Mike Doss cemented his place in Ohio State football history as one of the greatest defensive players to wear the scarlet and gray.

A three-time All-American and team captain, Doss played a pivotal role in leading the Buckeyes to their first national championship in 34 years during the 2002 season. His leadership, talent, and commitment to excellence earned him induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in December 2022, making him the 27th Buckeye to receive the prestigious honor.

Doss was a dominant force in the secondary, earning first-team All-American honors in 2000, 2001, and 2002. His final season was particularly special, as he not only won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year but also made the bold decision to return for his senior year rather than enter the NFL Draft early. His decision paid off, as he helped guide Ohio State to a perfect 14-0 season, culminating in a thrilling double-overtime victory over Miami in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. In that game, Doss showcased his playmaking ability with a key interception, solidifying his legacy as one of the program’s all-time greats.

Beyond his accomplishments on the field, Doss set an example of perseverance and dedication, inspiring future generations of Buckeyes. His impact extended into the NFL, where he played for several seasons, including a Super Bowl-winning campaign with the Indianapolis Colts. However, his heart always remained with Ohio State, where he is remembered not just for his accolades, but for his leadership and commitment to the team.

As we celebrate Black history, Mike Doss’s legacy serves as a reminder of the power of determination, excellence, and leadership in shaping the game of football and inspiring future athletes.
