Ohio State Buckeyes Advance to National Title Game with 28-14 Win over Texas
The Ohio State Buckeyes are headed to the national title game after a hard-fought 28-14 win over the Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl. The Buckeyes’ defense was the star of the show, holding the Longhorns to just 14 points and coming up with several crucial plays down the stretch.
The Good
Jack Sawyer’s Dominant Performance: Defensive end Jack Sawyer was an absolute force to be reckoned with, recording a sack, a tackle for loss, two pass breakups, and two QB hurries. His scoop-and-score touchdown in the fourth quarter sealed the win for the Buckeyes.
Running Backs Shine: TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins combined for 175 total yards and all three of Ohio State’s offensive touchdowns. Henderson’s 75-yard touchdown reception on a screen pass was a highlight-reel play.
The Bad
Will Howard’s Interception: Quarterback Will Howard had an uncharacteristic mistake, locking onto Jeremiah Smith and throwing an interception to Texas linebacker David Gbenda. Luckily, the Buckeyes’ defense was able to bail him out.
Third-and-1 Toss: The Buckeyes’ play-calling was questionable on a third-and-1 attempt, where they tried to pitch the ball to the outside instead of going for a quarterback sneak. The play resulted in a loss of yards and a punt on the ensuing play.
The Ugly
Penalties: Ohio State was plagued by penalties, committing nine infractions for 75 yards. The most egregious penalty was an unsportsmanlike conduct call on TreVeyon Henderson, which killed a promising drive.
Despite the mistakes, the Buckeyes were able to overcome them and secure a spot in the national title game. They will face off against Notre Dame, and it will be interesting to see how they bounce back from this performance.
