Ryan Day is an American football coach and former player, best known as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Born on March 12, 1979,

in Manchester, New Hampshire, Day played quarterback at the University of New Hampshire under offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. His coaching career began in 2002, and he gained experience at various college programs, including Boston College and Temple, before transitioning to the NFL as a quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers.

 

Day joined Ohio State in 2017 as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Urban Meyer. He quickly made an impact, helping develop quarterbacks like Dwayne Haskins and Justin Fields. When Meyer retired after the 2018 season, Day was promoted to head coach. In his first full season in 2019, he led the Buckeyes to a Big Ten Championship and a College Football Playoff appearance. He continued Ohio State’s dominance in the Big Ten and led them to the 2020 National Championship game.

 

Known for his offensive mind, quarterback development, and aggressive play-calling, Day has helped maintain Ohio State’s status as one of college football’s elite programs. Despite facing tough competition and high expectations, he has consistently kept Ohio State in the national title conversation.

 

Off the field, Day has been an advocate for mental health awareness, speaking openly about his own experiences and supporting initiatives to help student-athletes. His leadership, both on and off the field, has made him a respected figure in college foot
