Tennessee Volunteers guard Chaz Lanier has been honored as the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Co-Player of the Week, sharing the accolade with Alabama’s Mark Sears.

This recognition comes after Lanier’s stellar performance in Tennessee’s 77-69 victory over No. 7 Texas A&M on February 22, 2025.

In that matchup, Lanier delivered a season-high 30 points, shooting 10-of-18 from the field and an impressive 8-of-13 from three-point range. His eight three-pointers not only marked a personal best but also tied for the second-most by an SEC player this season and matched the second-highest total ever by a Volunteer. This feat made him the fourth player in Tennessee’s history to achieve at least eight three-pointers in a single game.

Lanier’s impact extended beyond scoring; he contributed five rebounds and played a pivotal role in breaking a 57-57 tie with a 6-2 run, propelling Tennessee ahead. His consistent performance has been instrumental in the Volunteers’ success this season, leading the team to five wins in their last six games.

This award marks Lanier’s third SEC Player of the Week recognition this season, having previously earned the honor on November 25, 2024, and January 6, 2025. He is the fourth player under head coach Rick Barnes to receive at least three such distinctions, joining the ranks of Dalton Knecht, Grant Williams, and Admiral Schofield.

Currently, Lanier ranks third nationally with an average of 3.48 made three-pointers per game, leading the SEC in this category. He also stands third in the conference in three-point percentage at 41.4% and fourth in points per game, averaging 18.0. Throughout the season, Lanier has scored in double figures 25 times, with 17 or more points in 18 games, surpassing 21 points in 11 contests, and exceeding 25 points in five games.

Lanier’s exceptional performance against Texas A&M not only underscores his individual talent but also highlights his significant contribution to Tennessee’s strong season. As the Volunteers continue their campaign, Lanier’s leadership and consistency will be crucial in their pursuit of SEC and national

success.
