Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and newly hired running backs coach Rashad Samples are making waves on the recruiting trail, quickly building momentum with top-tier talent.

One of their biggest targets? Elite 2025 running back Jared Gibson, a five-star prospect ranked among the best in the nation.

Since joining the Longhorns staff, Samples has wasted no time forging relationships with recruits, using his deep ties in Texas high school football and previous coaching experience at TCU, SMU, and the Los Angeles Rams. His energy and recruiting prowess, combined with Sarkisian’s offensive success, are already paying off.

Gibson, a dynamic playmaker from IMG Academy (FL), has Texas high on his list, and the Longhorns’ revamped offensive staff is making a strong impression. Sarkisian, known for his explosive offensive schemes, has helped develop top-tier running backs like Bijan Robinson and Jonathon Brooks into NFL-caliber talents. With Samples on board, Texas now has an even stronger pitch to elite recruits: a proven track record of developing RBs and a system designed to maximize their skills.

Sources indicate that Gibson has been in regular communication with the Texas staff and could visit Austin soon. His interest in Texas has only grown with Samples’ arrival, giving the Longhorns a serious shot at landing one of the nation’s best backs.

As Texas prepares for its move to the SEC, securing a top-tier running back like Gibson would be a statement. With Sarkisian and Samples working together, the Longhorns are in prime position to continue stacking elite talent and maintaining their offensive dom

inance.
