The Florida Gators men’s basketball program has secured a significant commitment from Meleek Thomas, a five-star guard in the 2025 recruiting class.
Thomas, a 6-foot-4 standout from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, chose Florida over other top programs, including Alabama, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
Thomas has been recognized for his exceptional scoring ability, elite ball-handling skills, and defensive prowess, consistently ranking among the top players in his class. His decision to join the Gators reflects the program’s growing appeal under head coach Todd Golden. Thomas cited the coaching staff’s vision for his development and the program’s future as key factors in his commitment, expressing excitement about the opportunity to grow as a player and compete at a high level.
This commitment is part of a broader trend of high-profile recruits choosing Florida. In August 2024, four-star guard CJ Ingram from Hawthorne, Florida, committed to the Gators over offers from Kansas, Michigan, Georgetown, and Georgia. Ingram, the son of former UF tight end Cornelius Ingram, was a standout quarterback in high school before deciding to focus solely on basketball.
Additionally, in February 2025, five-star recruit Nate Ament flipped his commitment from Kentucky to Florida. Ament, a highly touted small forward from Pennsylvania, had initially committed to the Wildcats but ultimately chose the Gators after a late push from Florida’s coaching staff.
These commitments have bolstered Florida’s recruiting classes, positioning the Gators as a formidable force in college basketball for the coming
years.
