A Future Gyökeres in the Making: Arsenal Agree Fee to Sign “Gifted” Striker.
Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign highly-rated teenage striker Will Wright from Salford City, beating off competition from several Premier League rivals. The Gunners are believed to have tabled a package worth £250,000 plus performance-based add-ons, significantly outbidding Liverpool’s offer of £100,000.
Wright, just 17, has been dubbed a “future Viktor Gyökeres” by academy insiders due to his blend of power, positioning, and prolific goal-scoring ability. Standing at 6ft 3in, the towering forward netted over 40 goals across all competitions for Salford’s youth teams last season, making him one of the most prolific young strikers in the country.
A source close to Arsenal’s academy described him as “a gifted natural finisher with raw physical attributes that resemble an early-career Gyökeres.” The Swedish international, who recently joined Arsenal in a blockbuster €73.5m deal from Sporting Lisbon, is expected to mentor the young striker upon his arrival.
The signing is part of Arsenal’s broader strategy to invest in elite youth talent, securing the best prospects before their values skyrocket. Wright will initially join the U18 squad but is expected to fast-track into the U21s and even first-team training if his development continues at its current pace.
Academy manager Per Mertesacker is reportedly excited about the signing, seeing Wright as a long-term project with the potential to break through within two to three years. “He’s someone we’ve tracked for a while,” an Arsenal scout said. “He’s got the hunger, the size, and the instinct you can’t teach.”
With Gyökeres already leading the frontline, Arsenal may have just secured the future of their strike force for years to come.
