Arsenal Transfer Round-Up: Fresh Viktor Gyökeres Optimism as ‘Negotiations’ Continue with Alternative.

Arsenal have received a fresh boost in their pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres, with new optimism emerging that a deal could still be struck this summer. Despite earlier reports suggesting negotiations had stalled due to a gap in valuation—Sporting demanding £77 million—sources close to the situation now claim discussions remain open, and Arsenal are preparing a structured offer that could unlock progress. Mikel Arteta remains a firm admirer of the Swedish striker, whose physicality, work rate, and eye for goal make him a perfect fit for the Gunners’ attacking system.

Sporting are reportedly willing to entertain a deal if Arsenal agree to a significant up-front payment with add-ons based on performance milestones. While the Portuguese club would prefer to retain their star forward, they also acknowledge that Gyökeres is keen on the Premier League and could push for the move if terms are agreed.

However, Arsenal are not putting all their eggs in one basket. Reports indicate that the club are actively pursuing an alternative target in the event Gyökeres becomes unattainable. Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee is one name under consideration. The Dutchman has impressed in Serie A with his technical ability and link-up play, and is seen as a more financially accessible option. Zirkzee has a release clause of around £34 million, making him an attractive back-up plan.

Arteta and sporting director Edu are determined to bring in a new striker before the season begins, with Gabriel Jesus’s injury record and Eddie Nketiah’s inconsistent form raising concerns. With talks ongoing on multiple fronts, Arsenal fans could be in for a busy few weeks as the Gunners look to finalise their attacking reinforcements.
