Good news as Liverpool take on Tottenham

Tottenham face Liverpool this weekend in what should be an incredibly close encounter between two teams in red-hot form.

Neither side has lost a game yet in the Premier League so far this term, and both teams will be keen to end the other’s unbeaten streak on Saturday.

Tottenham take on Liverpool in Premier League action this weekend with Ange Postecoglou looking to maintain his unbeaten league start to the season. Spurs have picked up 14 points out of a possible 18 with impressive performances against Manchester United and Arsenal resulting in a win and a draw.

Last weekend, to the surprise of many, Spurs left Emirates Stadium with a point after a Son Heung-min brace cancelled out a Bukayo Saka penalty and Cristian Romero own goal.

Heading into Saturday evening’s game, injury updates dominated both Postecoglou’s and Jurgen Klopp’s pre-match press conferences, with the latter providing the latest on Trent Alexander-Arnold.

As for Postecoglou, many Tottenham supporters were looking for updates on Brennan Johnson, Son Heung-min and James Maddison with his update set to give one Spurs star a huge opportunity this weekend. Following the Arsenal clash, Postecoglou revealed that Son was a doubt heading into the game, while Johnson appeared to pick up an injury which saw him substituted, with Maddison fitting into both of those categories.

Triple Tottenham injury update

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Brennan Johnson will miss this weekend’s Premier League clash against Liverpool. Johnson pulled up clutching his hamstring in the North London Derby against Arsenal, although the issue is not serious according to the Tottenham boss.

Updates were also provided on the status of James Maddison and Son Heung-min following Postecoglou revealing both had entered the game with knocks, after Maddison left a challenge with Jorginho clutching at his knee.

Johnson absence gives Spurs duo huge chance
With Ange Postecoglou confirming that Brennan Johnson will not feature against Liverpool due to injury, the Tottenham boss will be forced to make just his fifth starting XI change this weekend. Johnson initially came in for Manor Solomon to make his full debut after the latter dislodged Richarlison from the team.

In Solomon’s first start, Spurs beat Burnley 5-2 as he picked up two assists with Son Heung-min also scoring a hat-trick. Johnson’s didn’t quite go to plan but there are strong options from the bench who will be fighting for that spot in the team.

To keep Son central, Solomon coming back in makes sense, however Richarlison’s last home display against Sheffield United places him with a chance of a first start since Saturday, September 2.

Alexander-Arnold decision for Tottenham
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will feature against Tottenham this weekend after missing the last few weeks with a hamstring injury. The 24-year-old hobbled off in the second half of the 3-0 win against Aston Villa at the start of September which saw him miss international duty with England.

This past week, the defender was spotted back in training and therefore, understandably, his availability for this weekend was therefore an obvious topic in Klopp’s pre-Tottenham press conference with the Liverpool boss revealing he will be involved.
Tottenham may be at home, but Liverpool are probably coming into this game as slight favourites due to their stronger recent form.

Speaking on ESPN, Ale Moreno has given his prediction for this match, and he says that he can see Liverpool winning this game as they will get the better of Tottenham in transition, naming Cristian Romero as a player who could make the mistake to give Liverpool the three points here.

“I’m going to take Liverpool because they can take advantage of some transition moments that Spurs have at times. With their willingness to go forward, they leave themselves in bad positions, Romero might have a bad decision in him, that’s why I’m taking Liverpool and Darwin Nunez scoring the winner,” Moreno said.
The reality is that in games like this it can often take just one mistake to decide the result.

Both Tottenham and Liverpool will fancy their chances of getting a win here, and it may well come down to which team can hold their nerve and not do anything stupid.

Sadly, as Moreno says, it would be well within Romero’s character to make the mistake that costs Tottenham this weekend – he almost did It last week against Arsenal when he gave away the penalty to make it 2-1.

Composure may well be the name of the game on Saturday in this game, and Romero doesn’t necessarily excel in that area.
