Jurgen Klopp calls ‘outstanding’ 19-year-old Liverpool prospect into first-team training before tonight’s game

Jurgen Klopp calls ‘outstanding’ 19-year-old Liverpool prospect into first-team training before tonight’s game

Ben Doak outlines challenges to Liverpool 'machines' and new season expectations - Liverpool Echo

Three Liverpool youngsters were on show during yesterday’s open training session at Kirkby.

The Reds trained in-front of the cameras ahead of their Europa League clash with Union Saint-Gilloise this evening.

On-hand was the Liverpool ECHO, who spotted that young left-back Luke Chambers had been given a call-up by Jurgen Klopp.

Having made his official senior debut during last week’s Carabao Cup game, Chambers will be hoping for more minutes at Anfield this evening.

Meanwhile, first-team regulars Jarell Quansah and Ben Doak were also reportedly present, with both perhaps likely to play tonight. There was a notable absentee though, with Bobby Clark not present, despite being one of the U21s key men so far this season.

Given the landscape of the Liverpool squad, it would be a big surprise if Chambers were to start tonight’s match.

That’s because the Reds have a clear hierarchy for these types of occasion at left-back. Kostas Tsimikas would be good enough to start for many Premier League teams, and deserves his run-outs whenever its possible.

Unless the Greek is carrying a knock – and it’s worth noting that he appeared to train as normal yesterday – then he’ll start.

Luke Chambers

That doesn’t mean that Chambers won’t get on the pitch, though. The 19-year-old was brought on against Leicester and has clearly been catching plenty of eyes in the youth teams.

During the summer, it looked like this might earn him a loan move away from Anfield. Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen were said to be keen on him, and that would have been an eye-catching transfer.

But in the end, Chambers stayed put. If he’s to make good on the talent that saw him called ‘outstanding’ out on-loan last year [Kilmarnock FC Twitter] though, he is going to need minutes. With Tsimikas and Andy Robertson in his way, that perhaps won’t happen at Liverpool

Nevertheless, Klopp is blatantly a fan, and these little stints in and around the senior squad will only do Chambers good.

Roberto De Zerbi says Brighton have just lost an ‘important’ player ahead of facing Liverpool

Brghton boss Roberto De Zerbi vows to maintain his passion despite red card | The Independent

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that his side have suffered an ‘important’ injury ahead of facing Liverpool.

The Reds travel to the South Coast this weekend, looking to avenge a pair of losses against the Seagulls last season.

But first, both sides are in Europa League action this evening. And ahead of Brighton’s trip to Marseille, De Zerbi told brightonandhovealbion.com that left-back Pervis Estupinan has picked up an issue.

“He’s injured and can’t play for a month,” admitted the Italian. “He’s an important player we are losing, but we can play in that position with Tariq Lamptey, Igor Julio and other players.

“We have to be ready to change. We have to be good enough to get the result without important players.”

As looked likely at the beginning of the campaign, Brighton are starting to see the pitfalls of playing in European competition.

Having been so good in the Premier League last season, they’re now having to juggle midweek trips to the continent.

They were demolished 6-1 by Aston Villa on Saturday, and as a result De Zerbi’s side are in slightly unfamiliar territory. They’re not used to losing anymore, especially by that kind of margin.

Tonight’s game away at Marseille also looks incredibly tricky, with the visit of Liverpool no walk in the park either.

Injuries to the likes of Estupinan won’t help matters, but as De Zerbi says, they do have options to replace him.

And – unfortunately for them – they may need to soon get used to playing permanently without the Ecuadorian. Reports over the summer actually suggested that the 25-year-old is on Liverpool’s radar, amongst other clubs.

Estupinan is certainly a fine player who has been crucial to Brighton’s transformation over the past 18 months. For the time being though, they’ll have to make do without him.

What VAR were saying during the 2019 Champions League final is now very interesting after Klopp’s comments

Tottenham beat Liverpool on Saturday in controversial circumstances to say the least.

The VAR incident has only been worsened after the audio of the communications between Stockley Park and the referee were released.

This led to Jurgen Klopp calling for the game to be replayed – cue a massive meltdown from all fanbases.

As you can imagine, nobody is acting rationally at the moment, and there have been plenty of shouts from the Spurs side that the 2019 Champions League final should be replayed with both Jan Vertonghen and Jamie Carragher weighing in on that potential debate.

However, what many don’t seem to realise is that the VAR audio from the 2019 Champions League final is readily available, and it paints a very different picture to this weekend’s incident.
