Ian Doyle – Gomez deserves to keep place

Another day, another big game for Liverpool. And a huge test of their ongoing 19-game unbeaten run.

Tottenham Hotspur away is never easy so Jurgen Klopp is going to have to pick his strongest team.

What, then, is it?

There will a load of changes from the midweek League Cup win over Leicester City but not that many from the team that beat West Ham United in the Premier League last weekend.

The big shout is whether to recall Trent Alexander-Arnold and, to be honest, I wouldn’t. Joe Gomez has merited keeping his place at right-back, and will be a bit more defensive-minded which the Reds will need.

Alisson Becker is in goal, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate the centre-backs and Andy Robertson at left-back.

For me, midfield needs to be a bit more solid, and I’d have Alexis Mac Alister and Curtis Jones as a deep-lying duo with Dominik Szoboszlai given permission to run around even more so than usual.

Up top, Mohamed Salah is on the right, Darwin Nunez is down the middle and Luis Diaz continues to get the nod on the left. That bench is looking strong, though.

My team (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Gomez, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Jones; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Nunez

Liverpool return to Premier League action away at Tottenham in what is their biggest test of the season so far. And with Jurgen Klopp making 10 changes for the midweek victory over Leicester City in the League Cup, expect a much-changed side once again.

Trent Alexander-Arnold appears to have got through team training unscathed this week following a hamstring injury, with Klopp pretty much confirming he expects his vice-captain to be available. So he can come straight back into the starting XI.

Andy Robertson and Virgil van Dijk also return, having sat out Wednesday’s win over the Foxes. Meanwhile, the in-form Joe Gomez can get the nod at centre-back. He’s impressed so far this season, and while the right-back door might be closed shut, is deserving of keeping his place ahead of Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate.

The rest of the side pretty much picks itself, with Curtis Jones back in his preferred midfield role after his midweek right-back exploits, alongside Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister. Meanwhile, a trio of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Luis Diaz remains the first-choice attack despite Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota both scoring against Leicester.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Jones; Salah, Nunez, Diaz
