Liverpool on Luis Diaz’s parents kidnap – what we know so far and injury updates

After Liverpool striker Diogo Jota netted the first goal during his team’s match against Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Sunday, his primary focus was not the scoreline.

Without hesitation, the Portuguese international hurriedly made his way to the bench and raised Luis Diaz’s No. 7 jersey as a symbol of solidarity. This heartfelt gesture was a powerful demonstration of support for his teammate, as Diaz’s parents had tragically been kidnapped in his home country Colombia on the eve of the game.

The distressing incident unfolded at a gas station in the town of Barrancas, where Diaz’s parents were taken captive by armed individuals riding motorcycles. Prompt action was taken by the local police, who swiftly established roadblocks in the vicinity of the town, situated close to Colombia’s border with Venezuela.

Pep Lijnders held a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s League Cup tie against Bournemouth, he updated us on a number of topics.

Report: Diaz staying on Merseyside

With his father still missing after being kidnapped in Barrancas, Luis Diaz has reportedly taken the decision not to travel to Colombia for now.

Despite having “every intention of being in the country,” Diaz is refraining from travelling due to “security issues,” report Colombian outlet Semana.

Pep Ljinders said in his press conference: “We really care about him. The only thing now for us is we try to support him as much as we can.”

The assistant manager wouldn’t divulge details, saying: “It’s not for me sitting here to tell the whole world what we are doing, or for Lucho.

As long as we know we are doing the right things for him.”

Police and military forces are trying to locate Diaz Sr., with a 200 million peso (around £40,000) reward offered for information on his whereabouts.

We all hope he is found well, soon.
