Mark Goldbridge slams and insulted Gary Neville over ‘joke’ Liverpool replay stance
Mark Goldbridge has slammed Gary Neville over his views on the Tottenham Hotspur Liverpool VAR controversy.
On Saturday, Liverpool star Luis Diaz had a goal wrongly ruled out for offside during their 2-1 defeat against Spurs.
Since then, the PGMOL have been under intense pressure to release the full VAR audio of the incident.
On Tuesday evening, the PGMOL released the audio from the incident to the public.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Europa League clash against Union Saint-Gilloise, Klopp called for a replay.
He said: “It’s really important that as big as football is and important as football is we deal with it in a proper way. All the people involved, the on-field referee, linesman, fourth official and especially in this case VAR, didn’t do that on purpose. It was an obvious mistake and I think there would have been solutions for it afterwards.
“Some people probably don’t want me to say, but not as the manager of Liverpool so much, more as a football person, the only outcome should be a replay. That’s how it is. It probably will not happen.”
After that, Neville took to social media to reject Klopp’s claims, he wrote: “Can’t believe how Liverpool have grabbed defeat from victory in their handling of this! They were wronged by a shocking mistake. End of!”
Now, United fan and YouTuber Goldbridge has hit back at Neville. He wrote: “Can’t believe the Priminister of football has failed to grasp it again. This isn’t a joke, it isn’t a one off and it’s not about Liverpool. It’s about football and the constant horrific decisions”
Gary Neville has laughed off Jurgen Klopp wanting the game between Tottenham vs Liverpool replayed following the VAR error.
Luis Diaz had a goal incorrectly ruled out in Liverpool’s crushing 2-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Saturday.
The PGMOL have since released the VAR audio of Liverpool’s offside goal, with fans spotting one damning moment from the incident.
The league fixture could be replayed if an appointed commission rules the match officials breached the laws of the game.
Klopp himself wants the game replayed against Spurs after Diaz’s goal was wrongly disallowed by VAR.
Speaking ahead of his side’s Europa League clash against Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday, he said: “Something like this never happened, so that is why I think a replay is the right thing to do.”
Asked whether Liverpool had asked – or would ask – the Premier League for a replay, the German boss replied: “At this stage we are still going through the information we have.”
He added: “The audio didn’t change it at all. It is an obvious mistake. There should be solutions for that. The outcome should be a replay. But it probably won’t happen.
“The argument against that would be it opens the gates. It is unprecedented. I’m used to wrong and difficult decisions, but something like this never happened.”
Neville has weighed in on Klopp’s replay suggestion as he has issued a blunt response on social media. Taking to X, he wrote: “Can’t believe how Liverpool have grabbed defeat from victory in their handling of this!
“They were wronged by a shocking mistake. End of!”
Asked about his ‘sudden change of tone’ from Saturday, he added: “Because of Liverpools statement escalating it , mentioning integrity and exploring options. Now we’ve seen they want a replay! Thats madness.”
Klopp and Liverpool alike will have to put the replay talks behind them when they resume their Europa League campaign tomorrow. They return to Premier League action on Sunday when they travel to Brighton.
Gary Neville has criticised Liverpool for using “dangerous phrases” as well as being “vague” and “aggressive” in a strongly-worded statement that criticised PGMOL.
The Reds released a statement on Sunday night after PGMOL– the body responsible for referees in the Premier League – admitted Luis Diaz’s goal against Spurs was incorrectly disallowed for offside.
PGMOL acknowledged making a “significant” human error, adding: “This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention.”
After the VAR mistakenly believed the on-field decision had been to award a goal, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his anger, mentioning “crazy decisions” and “unfair circumstances” in his post-match interview.
And a day later, Liverpool released a statement of their own saying the explanation from PGMOL was “unacceptable” and that they planned to explore a “range of options available” in the meantime.
Following the incident in North London, Sky Sports pundit and commentator Gary Neville reacted to PGMOL’s initial statement live on air, saying: “It was too quick and something was obviously wrong.”
He could also be heard saying “no” on numerous occasions as host Kelly Cates read out the statement.
And on Sunday night at 10:28pm, the former Manchester United defender reacted to the above statement made by Liverpool.
“Jurgen Klopp handled the situation well last night after the game. Most football fans will have had empathy with what happened and recognised it was wrong!” Neville wrote on X.
“However Liverpool’s statement tonight is a mistake! Talk of exploring all options (what does that mean!!! ) and sporting integrity are dangerous phrases along with being vague and aggressive.”
Neville added: “Sorry we f@@@@d up was enough!! I said this last night. Sorry should be respected and not undervalued. This is a snap reaction that can always be wrong but I feel strongly about it.”
