Match preview: Liverpool vs New Castle Klopp clears the air on VAR

While last year’s standout was undoubtedly the exciting Ben Doak, this time around Jarell Quansah has stolen the limelight.

The 20-year-old has emerged from the academy and slotted into Jurgen Klopp’s senior squad absolutely seamlessly. The future certainly looks bright for Jarell.

Go back a year though, and Quansah’s rise from loan at Bristol Rovers to 14-game Liverpool star wouldn’t have been predicted by many.

With that in mind, we’re going to make a similarly unexpected call: Trey Nyoni will make his Liverpool debut in 2024.

That might sound bold given that Nyoni is just 16 and has plenty of competition ahead of him in the midfield, but we’re backing him to shine bright next year.

All eyes on Trey
Liverpool obviously think that Nyoni is someone who can one day play in their first-team. They wouldn’t have signed him if they didn’t.

Having been labelled as a ‘talented’ player by journalist Fabrizio Romano following his summer signing from Leicester City, it has been a season of progression for Trey so far.

The youngster has impressed for the underage sides and already looks a cut above many of his peers.

This was underlined when Nyoni was given a slot on the bench for Liverpool’s game against Brentford in November. He never got on, but it was a clear sign that Klopp has taken note of his talents.

Trey Nyoni
And it hasn’t just been at a distance that the Liverpool boss has observed those talents either.

Nyoni has already been invited to train with the Reds senior squad, reacting with glee having rubbed shoulders with the first-team stars in sessions during October.

Those run-outs came just months after Nyoni had moved to Liverpool. If his progression continues on the same trajectory, he will absolutely make his debut before the year is out.

As a result, we’d easily have him down as Liverpool’s young player to watch in 2024. The pathway is open for him, time for young Trey to make the most of it. You heard it here first.
