‘He cares about the club’ – Jamie Redknapp defends Manchester United captain against unfair criticism
Jamie Redknapp argues Bruno Fernandes is one of a few Manchester United players that genuinely cares about the club.
Manchester United dropped more points away from home after a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
The Reds travelled to the Vitality Stadium looking to bounce back to winning ways, but after failing to achieve that we find ourselves on a poor run of one league win in seven for United.
Bruno Fernandes scored two equalisers against the Cherries as United battled to take a point from the game.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Redknapp praised Fernandes after his brace against Bournemouth: “He cares about the club”
Redknapp says the criticism of Fernandes is unfair.
Fernandes is a scapegoat
Fernandes hasn’t had the best of seasons after being named club captain, but he is still the first player you be guarantee will run himself into the ground for his teammates.
It’s a shame others don’t follow suit because we would be in a better position if they took his example.
Hopefully, Fernandes is the one lifting the FA Cup in May. That would silence a few critics until they come back out of the woodwork next season.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was left frustrated with his side’s defending but he was nonetheless pleased with the resilience they showed in coming back twice to draw 2-2 at Bournemouth.
Another Defensive errors and sloppy performance, particularly in the first half of the game allowed Bournemouth to dominate and eventually took the lead through Dominic Solanke in the 16th minutes.
In a game that looked like a must won for Erik Ten Hag united side, after Newcastle had defeated Tottenham at home by four goals to nil, Bruno Fernandes scored the equalizer for his side to keep their hope high and running.
Bournemouth would restore parity through a well compose strike from Justin Kluivert as the game went to the break with Bournemouth taking the lead.
Manchester united struggled to match Bournemouth pace as the home team look to add more goals to their lead. United were awarded a penalty when 18 year old Mainoo’s strike was deflected into the hand of Adam Smith.
Bruno Fernandes stepped up to calmly dispatch the ball into the back of the net.
During the post match interview, united boss was quoted saying “We are into the final stage of the season and this is not enough. But the truth is today, we didn’t deserve more,”
In the end, if you allow them so many chances in the first half, as a team you don’t deserve more. You have to take control, don’t give chances and score goals for yourself.
