There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes at Manchester City as Pep Guardiola looks to rebuild his squad this summer.

The Premier League giants endured a tough campaign, having gone the entire season without a trophy for the first time since 2017.

As a result, Guardiola is keen to bring in four or five new faces over the coming weeks, with the midfield being at the heart of the Spaniard’s rebuild.

There are several other positions that the Man City boss will also look to add to, and despite saying that there will be no change in one particular position ahead of the new season, the starter in that role is open to leaving Manchester.

Ederson still wants to move to the Saudi Pro League

Guardiola said this week that Man City plan to keep Ederson this summer; however, the chances of the Brazilian leaving remain on the cards, with The Athletic reporting that the goalkeeper is still keen on a move to Saudi Arabia.

“There is the possibility that Ederson, their first-choice goalkeeper of the past eight years, could leave, so a new face at that position might be on the cards,” Jordan Campbell wrote.

“Ederson is open to a move to the Saudi Pro League, which could have happened last summer had a club there met City’s valuation. He only has one year remaining on his contract.”

It had been reported in the build-up to the summer transfer window that there was a very strong chance that Ederson would leave Man City ahead of the new season, with the Premier League star’s family keen on a change.

Al-Ittihad are interested in signing Ederson this summer, but the Saudi outfit are yet to make an official move.

It remains to be seen what happens with the goalkeeper ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, which is the same scenario for many other stars at the Etihad Stadium.

Other players who could leave Man City this summer

Ederson has been a big hit at Man City since he joined the club as part of a £35m deal with Benfica in 2017, which is similar to the situation of John Stones.

The centre-back has been one of the best the Manchester club has ever seen, but having suffered with fitness issues over the last 12 months, The Athletic reports that the Englishman could also be heading for the exit door at City this summer.

One star who has had a lot of transfer chat around him already is Jack Grealish, with Guardiola open to letting the winger go this summer after barely using the 29-year-old in recent months.

Grealish has been told by Ally McCoist and several other pundits to leave Man City this summer as he will need minutes if he hopes to play at the 2026 World Cup.

Guardiola is also open to Gundogan leaving, as for loan moves, Claudio Echeverri is a player who could seek experience elsewhere for the 2025/26 campaign.
