Exclusive: Shaun Wright-Phillips discusses Chelsea’s transfer policy
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino’s latest candid admission that his team have failed to hit the back of the net will only add more fuel to the fire as they look to land a striker in January. The Blues manager failed to explain how his team failed to beat Brentford, let alone come out on the losing side, after a 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge ended their run of unbeatability. But Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez could be the solution. RELATED ARTICLES

Chelsea ‘more interested’ in signing Havertz as replacement than four Prem rivals
Chelsea have failed to score in three of their last four home games and Pochettino has sent a public message to the board suggesting this is an urgent issue that needs to be addressed in January after his team was left empty.
“We tried to identify [the problem], but it happened not only since the start of this season, but also since last season, with different coaches,” he said after the match. “Yes, this is something we need to fix. I’m not saying I’m worried, but of course we are working to find a solution.
Gimenez has become one of Europe’s most powerful strikers after scoring 15 goals in 13 games in all competitions this season, meaning he now surpasses Manchester City’s top scorer Erling Haaland by two goals.

The 22-year-old scored a brace in the 3-1 win over Lazio in the Champions League, suggesting he could be just as effective at the top level after taking the Eredivisie by storm with 13 goals in 10 games.
90Min reported in September that Chelsea scouts have already taken a closer look at Gimenez after seeing him score a hat-trick against Ajax in their delayed 4-0 win over their Dutch rivals – and Pochettino may now be ready to press the trigger.
The Mexico international is reportedly on a shortlist of four for attackers, with the London club eyeing a major signing in January.

Chelsea have Jadon Sancho and Guardiola to thank for new star Palmer – EXCLUSIVE
Their interest in Napoli star Victor Osimhen is well documented, although reports that the Partenopei want a fee in excess of £100m could even put him out of Chelsea’s financial options.
Brentford goalkeeper Ivan Toney is a realistic target but hasn’t played for eight months, while Brighton wonderkid Evan Ferguson would also be an interesting player at Stamford Bridge. However, the 19-year-old will also receive a huge fee after recently signing a new long-term contract with Brighton. But Gimenez’s asking price is said to be just £40 million, which would certainly see him move to the front of the queue. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham have their eye on Gimenez alongside Chelsea and Real Madrid and Feyenoord could be willing to sign the player they signed from Cruz Azul for just £5m in 2022 .

Chelsea will ‘win the Premier League in two years’ but Pochettino dealt them a big blow
Gimenez is a strong and powerful striker, capable of maintaining play and finishing with a precise finish. This is something that Chelsea have been lacking for several years and Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner have failed to provide an answer following major transfers. Nicolas Jackson is set for a bright future at Stamford Bridge, with Pochettino praising the Senegalese as a player with “world class” potential. Yet comparisons with Didier Drogba proved accurate just by looking at the Ivorian’s early struggles, with Jackson scoring just twice since his £32million transfer.
Armando Broja has struggled to stay fit and there are doubts whether he can challenge Jackson for the main role in Pochettino’s attack. But Gimenez’s CV since arriving at Feyenoord suggests he could be the man to turn the season around if he joins the struggling Blues in January.
