Cole Palmer recall incident with premium league boss that left him confused

Cole Palmer has admitted he was left confused by Pep Guardiola’s decision to not allow him go on loan, despite his own willingness to.

Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City last summer, but it was a rather surprising move after he’d appeared and scored for the Citizens in both the FA Community Shield and the UEFA Super Cup ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

According to the 21-year-old, he had a meeting with Guardiola, and sought clarification regarding his future, following the purchase of Jeremy Doku, but he was told to remain at Man City and fight for his future or get sold.

Palmer told MailSport: “Initially I didn’t want to leave.

“I said I would go on loan and play for a year so I was ready for first team football more because I didn’t play a lot of minutes [last season]. But then Pep said ‘you’re either staying or you’re getting sold’ and, so yeah, I just got sold.

“I was a bit confused why they wouldn’t let me go on loan but [then] I said I wanted to go to Chelsea and I’m glad it’s turned out the way it has.”

Chelsea have benefited hugely from the signing of Palmer.

The attacker has already netted nine goals in the Premier League since his £42m transfer to Stamford Bridge, and the season is still only halfway gone.
