EPL NEWS: We still need help Manchester City manager

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has called on the club to strengthen their squad by signing a holding midfielder and a centre-back in the January transfer window.

According to Daily Post, Guardiola believes the additions are crucial to revitalizing his team’s season following a challenging run of form.

The reigning Premier League champions recently ended a five-match winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday.

However, their struggles in the league have been evident, with just one win in their last nine matches before the Leicester triumph.

Currently, Manchester City sit four points outside the Premier League’s top four, a position unfamiliar to the typically dominant side.

Injuries have severely impacted Guardiola’s squad this season. Holding midfielder Rodri is unlikely to feature again this term, leaving a significant void in the midfield.

Additionally, defensive stalwarts John Stones and Ruben Dias have struggled with fitness issues.

Stones has played only two of City’s last 13 matches, while Dias has been sidelined for three consecutive games.

Guardiola has highlighted the need for reinforcements, particularly in central defense and midfield, as key to stabilizing the team’s performance.

With Kevin De Bruyne recently returning from injury, the manager believes further squad depth is essential to navigate the remainder of the season successfully.

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Super Eagles defender Ola Aina, who has been impressive for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League this season, according to All Nigeria Soccer. Aina, who has made 75 career appearances in the Premier League, has caught the attention of City’s scouts with his exceptional tackling and technical skills.

The 28-year-old Nigerian defender has been a key player for Forest, starting all 19 games and scoring two goals from his defensive position. His ability to contribute both defensively and offensively has made him a standout performer in the Premier League, and his technical ability and composure on the ball have also been highlighted by his impressive passing statistics.

Aina’s versatility in being able to play on either flank aligns perfectly with Pep Guardiola’s preference for adaptable players who can thrive in various formations. This makes him an attractive option for Manchester City, who have been below their usual standards this season and are looking to overhaul their squad.

The Citizens are said to be looking for a replacement for the aging Kyle Walker, who is now 34 and may not be offered a new contract by the club. Aina’s pace and technical skills down the flanks make him a natural fit for City’s dynamic style of play, offering another dimension to their attacking threats.

While Nottingham Forest are eager to extend Aina’s stay, an offer from Manchester City could be too tempting to resist. The former England youth international’s ability to contribute both defensively and offensively would undoubtedly strengthen City’s squad and provide them with a fresh perspective.

Aina’s move to Manchester City would be a significant boost for his career, and would provide him with the opportunity to play for a top-tier club and compete for major honors. The Nigerian defender has already proven himself to be a capable player in the Premier League, and his experience and skills would make him a valuable asset to City’s squad.

The interest in Aina is also a testament to the growing reputation of Nigerian players in the Premier League. The Super Eagles have a number of talented players plying their trade in England’s top flight, and Aina’s potential move to Manchester City would be a significant milestone for Nigerian football.
